Project Overview
A UI/UX sprint project, this design reimagines the Season Cycle photo series for the Democrat & Chronicle newspaper. The goal was to create an engaging, mobile-friendly experience that encourages users to explore Rochester’s changing seasons through interactive visuals and seamless navigation.
Project Goal
- Redesign a digital storytelling experience for The Season Cycle, making it intuitive, visually engaging, and easy to navigate.
- Enhance user interaction with a streamlined interface that encourages exploration of seasonal photography.
- Leverage UI/UX best practices to create a clean, dynamic, and visually immersive design for digital readers.

Target Audience
- Primary Users: Digital readers of the Democrat & Chronicle, primarily ages 38-41, with an interest in local art and photography.
- User Challenges:
- Readers spend under 1 minute and 30 seconds on digital newspaper articles.
- They prefer simple navigation, strong visuals, and quick access to engaging content.
Design Approach & Features
- Human-Centered Design: The interface is built around user-friendly navigation and vibrant imagery.
- Seasonal Navigation: Divided into Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn, each section features interactive thumbnails leading to galleries.
- Minimalist UI & Strong Visual Hierarchy: A simple color palette and intuitive design elements keep the focus on the photography.

Tools & Methods Used
- Figma: Wireframing, mid- to high-fidelity prototypes.
- AI Assistance: Generating design inspiration before designing.
