Financial Literacy Education

With Intuit Education

Project Overview

As part of a graduate program challenge sponsored by Intuit, my team and I designed an interactive, game-based experience to make financial literacy more engaging and accessible. We applied design thinking methodologies to research real financial struggles, prototype solutions, and refine our approach based on user feedback. Our goal was to create a hands-on learning experience where users budgeted, managed expenses, and made real-world financial decisions—learning by doing rather than merely memorizing financial jargon.

The project evolved as we tested and iterated on our designs, blending human-centered design, UX research, and storytelling to create an intuitive and impactful experience. By prioritizing accessibility and engagement, we built a tool that empowered users to make confident financial choices while making the process of learning about money practical, relevant, and even fun.

Define
  • Identified a core challenge: “How might we make financial literacy feel relevant, accessible, and actionable?”
  • Used insights to narrow focus on budget management and real-life financial trade-offs.
  • Set design principles prioritizing engagement, practicality, and user autonomy.
Brainstorming & Game Concept Development
  • Initially, we designed a game inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, but after client feedback, we pivoted to better align with their vision and goals.
  • Storyboarding helped envision user interactions and player progression.
Prototype — Building the Experience
  • Created low-fidelity wireframes and scenario cards for playtesting.
  • Developed a clickable prototype using Figma with sample scenarios, characters, and decision trees.
  • Included interactive elements such as financial goals, emergency expenses, and “level-up” achievements.
